Job Description

Ready to build on your field experience in a dynamic and supportive team?

Joining Past to Present Archaeology as a Project Archaeologist offers the chance to expand your practical skills while working on a broad range of projects — from commercial evaluations and excavations to public outreach and international research.

You’ll be part of a close-knit, motivated team delivering quality archaeology across the UK and further afield. This role includes opportunities to get involved in both fieldwork and post-excavation tasks, such as digitising site records, processing finds, and assisting with community-focused activities and events.

We’re particularly keen to hear from archaeologists who enjoy varied work, are proactive on site, and bring a positive attitude to teamwork and learning.

Key responsibilities:

  • Participate in archaeological evaluations, excavations, and watching briefs
  • Contribute to post-excavation tasks (e.g., digitisation, finds processing)
  • Engage with community archaeology where relevant
  • Travel to sites across the UK (own vehicle essential)

Starting salary: £25,636.43
Location: Primarily UK-based with some international opportunities
Contract: Full-time, with potential for career progression
