Becoming a Senior Archaeologist for Past to Present Archaeology is viewed as a stepping stone to fulfilling career, including positions as a research focused Community Archaeologist, or Project Supervisor / Officer.

As a representative of Past to Present Archaeology, you will be required to guide promising talent to reach its full potential, and aid in staff development.

Further your commercial responsibilities with the opportunity to undertake community based work, partaking in leading our courses and field schools.

With this role comes increasing responsibility with a requirement to participate in our foreign projects.

 

Starting salary:  £24,800

Job Specification

  • In the first instance, you will be required to perform a range of fieldwork tasks in the commercial sector, comprising excavation of urban and rural settings
  • Be proficient in excavating and recording, understanding site stratigraphy, archaeological interpretation, using Leica GPS and keeping accurate records
  • Undertake watching briefs and site stripping roles
  • Advise and assist in staff development
  • Develop skills in GIS and report writing
  • Further to your commercial responsibilities, you will be required to undertake an element of community based work – this may include fieldwalking and geophysics events, participation in Past to Present Archaeology led courses and assisting in the preparation of field schools for the 2021 season
  • Past to Present Archaeology will cover costs for additional training courses, such as CAT and First Aid

 

  • A degree in archaeology, or equivalent academic knowledge and practical ability
  • 3 years commercial archaeological experience
  • A full clean driving licence and use of own vehicle is a requirement of this role
