Our trainee programme offers a well-structured career development path to becoming a professional archaeologist.

Trainees who successfully complete the scheme and demonstrate the aptitude and enthusiasm to develop their careers at Past to Present Archaeology will be offered permanent or fixed-term contracts at Project Archaeologist level.

 

Starting salary:  £22,000

Job Specification

  • Excavate and interpret a range of archaeological features
  • Learn how to competently record archaeological features
  • Develop an understanding of fieldwork processes across both commercial and research projects
  • Develop an understanding of different geologies, site stratigraphy and matrices
  • Take publication quality site photographs
  • Identifying and categorise a range of archaeological materials
  • Receive training in GIS
  • Undertake post-excavation reporting tasks – such as producing context summaries, digitising plans and sections, and preparing figures for reports
  • Gain an understanding of how each stage of the archaeological process contributes to the overall project

 

  • A degree in archaeology, or equivalent academic knowledge and practical ability
  • A full clean driving licence and own vehicle is a requirement of this role
